Divide & Conquer: Managing Household Responsibilities

Are you and your partner unsure about how to balance work and household responsibilities? Here are some ways couples are tackling both as a team!

TEAM TRADITIONAL
On this team, the wife typically handles the majority of household responsibilities. This includes cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, laundry and other miscellaneous tasks. Meanwhile, the husband provides the monetary foundation for the household by working a full-time job. This may also include finances and budgeting.

TEAM COOL DAD
This is the exact opposite of “Team Traditional.” The husband takes care of household tasks including caring for the children. No kids? This can also work for a husband without children. The wife on this team is the financial provider.

TEAM SHOW ME THE MONEY
This team is a dual-income partnership; however, both parties are typically advanced in their careers and can afford services to take care of their home. This allows them to work hard and play harder by spending time with each other as well as family.

TEAM 50/50
This team is also dual income; they operate by splitting tasks equally. For example, when both husband and wife come home from work, one cooks dinner while the other cleans the kitchen. This team should be considered by those who work well methodically. Joining this team may require a lot of planning and accountability.

TEAM GO WITH THE FLOW
Each player on this team knows how to play all positions. This can be a dual income or traditional household. This team has accepted that 50/50 may not always work for them. Sometimes the husband may cook instead of the wife. If the husband sees that his wife had a rough day at work, maybe he’ll put the children to bed that night so she can relax. This team is all about stepping up to plate even when one doesn’t expect it.

Every couple is different and can do what works best for them!
